From Singing Lessons in Singapore to《天籁新声》: Elijah’s Final Showcase
11-year-old Vocal Collective student Elijah Seah recently completed his journey at《天籁新声》in China, after successfully making it into the 全国100强 (National Top 100).
After rounds of competition, training and rehearsals, Elijah took the stage for his Final Showcase, bringing this China journey to a close.
As his vocal coach, it was especially rewarding to see how much he had grown from the preparation in Singapore to his final performance in China.
Preparing for《天籁新声》
Before travelling to China, a big part of Elijah’s preparation happened during his singing lessons in Singapore at Vocal Collective.
Competition preparation can be very different from a regular singing lesson. We had to look closely at the songs he was performing and work on areas such as vocal control, breathing, dynamics, expression, stage movement and overall performance delivery.
There were many small details to work on.
How should he approach a difficult section? Where should he conserve his voice? How should he move on stage? How can he communicate the song better?
These were all part of the preparation.
Growing as a Young Performer
One thing we always encourage at Vocal Collective is for students to use what they learn outside the classroom.
You can practise vocal techniques repeatedly during lessons, but performing in front of an audience is a completely different experience.
Being in《天籁新声》gave Elijah the chance to experience rehearsals, competition pressure, professional training and performing in a completely different environment.
By his Final Showcase, we could see that he was becoming more comfortable and confident on stage.
That experience is something a normal weekly lesson cannot fully recreate.
What We Focus on During Singing Lessons
As a vocal coach in Singapore, my role is to help students understand their voices and gradually build the skills they need for their own goals.
Some students come to Vocal Collective because they simply enjoy singing.
Some want to improve their technique or confidence.
Others eventually want to perform, busk, join competitions or explore music more seriously.
Our singing lessons in Singapore therefore cover both vocal technique and practical application. Through the VC Method, students work through different areas of vocal development before learning how to apply them to songs and performances.

The idea is simple: discover how your voice works, develop the necessary skills through training, and learn how to deliver when you sing.
Beyond Singing Lessons
Elijah’s experience is also a good example of what we hope to build at Vocal Collective.
Learning singing does not have to stop at attending a lesson every week.
When suitable opportunities come along, we want our students to experience different sides of music — student concerts, live performances, competitions, songwriting and other projects.
For Elijah, this time it brought him from his regular singing lessons in Singapore all the way to a stage in China.
Making the 全国100强 was definitely something worth celebrating, but seeing how much more experienced he became throughout the process was equally meaningful.
