Why Bryan Toro Started Vocal Collective: A Different Approach to Singing Lessons in Singapore

When people ask me why I started Vocal Collective, the answer is actually quite simple.

I wanted to create the kind of musical experiences that changed my life and make them accessible to everyday aspiring singers.

For most of my life, music has taken me on an incredible journey.

As a singer and vocal coach, I have had the opportunity to perform on numerous stages, appear in television singing competitions, and pursue my dreams both locally and overseas. Some of these experiences included Project SuperStar, Taiwan’s《我要当歌手》, and The Voice《决战好声》.

Singing brought me opportunities that I never imagined possible.

The spotlight.

The stage.

The excitement.

The friendships.

The unforgettable memories.

But over the years, a question kept appearing in my mind.

Why should only performers get to enjoy these experiences?

Who says aspiring singers cannot stand on a big stage?

Who says students cannot experience the same excitement, confidence, and growth that comes from performing?

That question eventually became the foundation of Vocal Collective.

Beyond Traditional Singing Lessons

Since beginning my coaching journey in 2008, I have always believed that singing lessons should be more than just learning vocal techniques.

Throughout my years as a vocal coach and music educator, I have had the privilege of organising student concerts, showcases, recordings, performance opportunities, and overseas musical experiences.

I have seen complete beginners step onto a stage for the very first time.

I have seen students overcome stage fright.

I have seen singers discover confidence they never knew they had.

Time and time again, I witnessed how performance opportunities could transform not only a singer’s voice, but also their confidence, communication skills, and personal growth.

That is why I believe vocal training should go beyond the classroom.

Building A Singing School Focused On Growth

Vocal Collective was created to be more than just another singing school in Singapore.

While structured vocal training remains an important part of every student’s journey, I wanted to build an environment where singers could continue growing through experiences beyond weekly lessons.

This includes:

  • Structured vocal coaching through The VC Method

  • Performance opportunities

  • Student concerts and showcases through VC Experience

  • Community learning experiences through VC Pass

  • Workshops and special events

  • Open classes and collaborative learning

Because singing is not only about technique.

It is also about confidence.

It is about self-expression.

It is about connecting with others through music.

Why The Name “Vocal Collective”?

The word “Collective” was chosen intentionally.

I wanted to create a community where singers could train together, connect together, and grow together.

Whether someone dreams of performing on stage, improving their singing, building confidence, or simply enjoying music as a hobby, I believe everyone deserves a place where they can continue developing their voice and their love for music.

The Journey Continues

Today, Vocal Collective represents a vision that has been years in the making.

A place where vocal training meets real-world experiences.

A place where singers can discover their voice, develop their skills, and deliver with confidence.

Most importantly, a place where ordinary people can experience extraordinary musical moments.

Because sometimes all it takes is one opportunity, one performance, or one stage to change the way someone sees themselves forever.

And that is the experience I hope to create for every singer who walks through our doors.
